it's official: poly kids are really different from jc kids.

when the kiddos switched on their laptops on tues, i didn't stop them, for some of them were using it to take down notes.

lo and behold! during the lull period (read: when they were pestering me to announce their marks for CA1), people started to blog, play online games, read manga yadda dadda.

culture shock!

so, i was super determined not to have this happen again on thurs. and i prepared a lesson which i thought would be a blast: writing magazine articles about Shia Labeouf and Megan Fox based on interviews from TalkingPoint. it was reasonably successful until i got them to think of their story angle and write out the article on the spot.

it isn't the case that they didn't do it. it's just that they take a long time to come together to settle down on doing stuff--and here i am, always lamenting that my yj kids are slow. haha.

think i am gonna miss the times when i could force students to write one paragraph under time pressue. and the whole class would be furiously scribbling away. :(

various people, including an ex-Chong Boon student, have advised how this is poly culture. ironically, it makes me more fired up to be in SP right now, because the dynamics of students are really different. how would it be fun if i replicate similar techniques in another jc? yay!
