inane blogging at Nepal!
so much for resolving to stay off the Internet while travelling. haha. but in my defence, i guess i'm not a hard-core addict yet, for i didn't bring my laptop along. now, i am pretty confident that this is something that i would never do.
a fruitful week, full of varied and unique experiences. Waking up at 5am to trek to Changu Narayan. Admiring magnificent views of the mountains at Nagarkot. Watching death rites at Pashupatinath. Absorbing the vibrancy of the Durbar Squares at Kathmandu and Patan. Discovering pirated dvds at Thamel, Kathmandu. haha.
it's a rather brutal assault on my senses. the noise, the fumes, the congested streets, the need to watch out for cow dung, the need to dodge every now and then to prevent being knocked down by charging vehicles. thank goodness the food is splendid.
it's quite a cultural shock during these past few days but one thing is for sure, i would never feel out-of-place in Little India again. For, what is it compared to Nepal? haha.
watching the bodies being burnt into ashes and the women of the dead relative crying their hearts out (and i mean, no-holds-barred crying) was a poignant reminder of the fragility of life.
am I satisfied with the choices I have made?
do I think that I am leading my life well?
having heard my tour guides frown upon their previous government, i feel incredibly blessed to be a Singaporean. that I have secured a reasonably well-paying job and (more importantly) can afford to travel. i must think about how i should contribute back to society when i reach back home.
it's kinda funny. this trip has caused various memories of my travel experiences to surface to the consciousness of my mind again. i realise that i don't really have concrete mental representations. all blurred and juxtaposed with one another. seems like i have been wasting money all this while. haha.
i think i am less uptight about travelling and securing memorable moments. hell, i just stayed in the hotel room for around 3hrs in the afternoon just now (because i was overcome with fatigue. i don't know why either) but amazingly, i wasn't really bothered by it.
i wanna find my own rhythm and lead my life.
i don't wanna turn into one of those sad Singaporeans who grind miserably at their jobs and only live for the holidays.
this resolve is strengthened until i turn cynical again in the rat race. :)
